Congratulations to the Transition Year Young Social Innovators (YSI) group, who successfully completed the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal. As part of YSI students investigate social problems and then look at creative solutions. The students were studying the topic of poverty and decided the shoebox appeal was a great initiative to try and help less fortunate children in other parts of the world.
The students coordinated a very successful Shoebox Appeal campaign. Firstly, they organised guest speakers from Team Hope to come in and talk to the class. They then created posters; put them up around the school and they made a presentation to the other year groups in order to inform them about the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal. All these initiatives got the students and staff of Kilkenny City Vocational School interested and excited in the Shoebox Appeal. The students collected shoeboxes in their spare time from shoe shops all around the city and during YSI they wrapped and filled these shoeboxes and distributed them to students who requested them.
In total the YSI group filled 77 shoeboxes. This is a great success for the group and we are very proud of their achievement.
A big thank you to all the students, staff and parents of KCVS who were very generous in their contributions to the appeal. It was great working with the group and Ms. Butler and Ms. Sheehy look forward to doing it again next year.
