Update from the Principal re 2020 Leaving Cert

Hello 6th Years.

You have probably heard the news by now that the Leaving Certificate is cancelled. I hope you are not too disappointed! I will be in touch with each of you on Monday to explain what will happen now and the details of the way forward. In the meantime you and all your teachers who have been working so hard can relax tonight and enjoy our lovely weather. I am reminded of my favourite philosophers Socrates’ quote who once mused ‘the secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but in building the new’ . Take care of yourselves and keep safe. you can read the full press release below.

Translated Resources

The KCVS community is an all encompassing, welcoming and inclusive one, we welcome people from all cultures, socioeconomic strata, gender, religion and race. A result of this means we welcome a healthy cohort of international students, some permanent some temporary, through our doors every year. With the aim of reaching as much of the KCVS community as possible in mind, Mr Fogarty has supplied a hugely beneficial Translated Resource. This resource will undoubtedly be of great value to, firstly our students, but perhaps more importantly to family members of our students, who may not have the same grasp of English to comprehend pivotal messages from the authorities that may be life-saving. The document can be found in the Support and Advice tab in the header menu at the top of the page. Thanks once again to Mr Fogarty for this invaluable resource.

Message from our Principal

A Message from the Principal.

An Scáth Le Cheile

In these unprecedented and most challenging of times, we in Kilkenny City Vocational School are meeting this challenge head on and we are succeeding.

Whilst are doors are closed and our corridors are eerily quiet our virtual classrooms are buzzing!

Teams, Podcasts, Padlets, Zoom, Flipped Classrooms, Online Quizzes Webinars, and Virtual School Tours are the order of the day!

I am astounded and extremely proud at the level of innovation, creativity and sheer ingenuity of all our teachers and students to ensure that our business of teaching and learning continues.

This gives me great hope for the future when life resumes as normal and this cloud passes. The sun will shine again and it will be brighter and stronger for all of us.

As our school motto says “We are stronger together” and even though we have to remain apart for the moment we are reaching out to each other in so many supportive ways!

Keep reaching out, keep supporting each other, keep engaging!

Stay positive and stay safe and protect each other and your families by staying apart.

We are all in this together and together we will succeed.

“Taobh le taobh, ag foghlaim ‘s ag fás”

This too shall pass.

Cathy McSorley & all in KCVS
