In 2016 the Transition Year Programme was launched at Kilkenny City Vocational School. This one year programme was introduced for our students to provide a bridge between Junior and Senior Cycle. The aim of our school-based programme is to facilitate the smooth transition from the more dependent learning of the Junior Cycle to the more independent self-directed learning required for the Senior Cycle. Our programme consists of uniquely designed courses which are tailored to the needs and interests of our students.
Our Transition Year Programme offers our students an opportunity to engage in independent, self-directed learning, to develop general, technical and academic skills, and to mature and develop without the pressure of an examination. Participation in Transition Year provides our students the chance to sample a wide range of subject areas so they can make informed decisions about their future line of study.
