PLASTISEA, Kilkenny City Vocational School’s Junk Kouture entry reached the Southern Regional Finals of Junk Kouture Recycling Competition. A record breaking, 1,590 entries were submitted to judges this year where we reached the Top 80 in Southern Region.
Similar to last year, the painstaking voting began for a week long period 19th – 23rd February. Voting accounts for 10% of judges votes. Competing against huge schools from Limerick, Cork, Kerry and other counties across the south we finished a very commendable 11th at the close of voting. Our small, close knit school in the heart of Kilkenny finished more than ten places clear of any other Kilkenny School in public vote. This result was due to an active voting campaign, including radio interviews, social media and posters as examples.
On the 9th March we then travelled to University Concert Hall, Limerick, where model Tanya put on great performance and really had the crowd on their feet. When it came to the final top eighteen we unfortunately did not make it through to All Ireland.
The students must be commended for their excellent behaviour, work ethic and motivation. Their attitude was fantastic and they represented themselves, their classmates and our school excellently on the day. We are very proud.
A thank you also must be extended to staff members Ms Sheehy, Ms Corrigan, Ms Healy and principal, Ms McSorley for supervising the supporter’s bus. The supporters were impeccable in uniform and courteous in behaviour, moreover, they were gracious and supportive in defeat, representing the school well on the day.
We are already excited for next year!
